The Sheep Road

A ROAD FULL OF SHEEP

There’s a road from Leenane toward Westport that winds through mountains, along the fjord, past stone walls and old ruins, with the rugged landscape of the west coast unfolding around every turn.

And then there were the sheep. They seemed to be everywhere.

At one point, I found myself stopped on the road, watching a whole group of sheep making their way along. There was nowhere I needed to be, so I simply waited and watched.

It was one of those little moments that makes a journey feel like a journey.

FROM THE LAND INTO THE WOOL

I used the same soft gray Westport wool that I used for The Stone & River. The color reminded me of the stone walls and weathered landscape around me, so I let the wool become part of that memory.

Around the outside, I hand embroidered about ten little sheep. Each one faces forward, with a tiny face nestled into a circle of French-knot fleece.

They make me smile.

The purse is fully lined and generously sized for a coin purse/clutch or small everyday essentials.

It's soft, sturdy, and practical without losing the little bit of whimsy that makes it feel like a Wanderlust & Wool piece.

For me, it will always bring back the rain, the mountains, the stone walls, the ruins, and that unexpected sheep traffic jam.

Sometimes the best parts of a journey aren't destinations at all.

Sometimes they're the moments when you have nowhere else to be. And sometimes there are sheep in the road.

Made slowly and intentionally by hand, one stitch at a time.
